Ground Zero – Statement by Sandra Hawkins
I photographed this series of New York City monumental architecture a few months after the September 11, 2001 attack on the World Trade Centre (WTC). Standing on the sidewalk across from the now gaping hole in the skyline, the emptiness became a haunting presence. The fragility of the skin-like Polaroid emulsion lifts creased into organic shapes and pressed onto rag paper, evoke the sense of loss, vulnerability and ephemerality.
