Ecologies of Identities Installation 2010

Photo-based installation with earphones to listen to the artist’s difficult performance reading her handwriting in her daily journals as she travel in Canadian arctic during winter 1981. This installation is derived from her Journal Reading Performance documented at The Other Gallery, Banff Centre Alberta, March 21, 2009.

The grid wall installation of printed video frames show slight shifts in the position of the artist’s hands that hover over the open Arctic journal she is reading. The sound element is a recording of her extemporaneous stumbling over her now unfamiliar cursive writing style. The sound of her voice evokes heaviness with the weight of bureaucracy for a land with relatively small population.
