Ecology of Narrative Space is a series of photomontage prints. In these works, I digitally layer my 1980-82 film photography of 6 central Arctic communities with transparent images of my corresponding same-date hand-written travel journals. The cursive calligraphy and content fade in and out with the tonal values within the image, similar to the way of memories. This work engages a contemporary aesthetic and socio-environmental discussion on the fluidity of memories and narratives influenced by changing standpoints within personal and public histories. The place names have changed to meaningful Inuktitut names since the original film photographs. References: identity, the weaving of memory (Walter Benjamin), reflexive consciousness (Brecht).
